Neurofeedback

Do you feel like your brain is constantly "on high alert," making it impossible to relax?

Are you struggling with focus, brain fog, or a mind that feels like it has too many tabs open? in a feeling that doesn’t seem to match what’s happening?

Do you experience intense emotional waves or “stuck” moods that don’t seem to respond to traditional talk therapy?

Have you tried various coping strategies for anxiety, ADHD, or sleep issues, but still feel like your nervous system is running the show?

If you are looking for a way to find more balance, focus, and calm without relying solely on medication, neurofeedback therapy may offer the path forward you’ve been seeking.

Training Your Brain for Better Balance

We often think of our moods and behaviors as personality traits, but they are frequently the result of how our brains are regulated. Neurofeedback is a non-invasive, evidence-based form of biofeedback that helps your brain learn to function more efficiently. Instead of just talking about your symptoms, neurofeedback addresses the physiological root—the brain’s electrical patterns.

By harnessing your brain’s natural neuroplasticity—its incredible ability to change and grow—this therapy helps “retrain” your nervous system. Whether you are dealing with the aftermath of trauma, chronic stress, or neurodevelopmental challenges like ADHD, neurofeedback provides your brain with the information it needs to find its own way back to stability.

You Aren’t Alone in Your Struggle

Many people feel frustrated when they can’t “will” themselves into feeling better. It is exhausting to fight against a nervous system that feels dysregulated. Approximately 1 in 5 adults struggle with anxiety, and many more face challenges with sleep, attention, and emotional regulation.

At Skylands Wellness, we understand that these aren’t just “mindset” issues; they are often the result of a brain that has become stuck in certain patterns—perhaps as a survival mechanism from past stress or simply due to how your brain is wired. Neurofeedback allows us to peek “under the hood” and help your brain develop the flexibility it needs to respond to life with resilience rather than reactivity.

Our Unique Approach to Neurofeedback

Our work is grounded in the belief that the brain is a relational organ. We don’t just hook you up to a computer and walk away; we integrate neurofeedback into a supportive, therapeutic environment.

  1. Thorough Assessment: We begin by understanding your history, your triggers, and your goals. We look at the “arousal” of your nervous system—whether it tends toward being over-active (anxiety, impulsivity), under-active (depression, brain fog), or a mix of over- and under-aroused.

  2. Real-Time Feedback: During a session, small sensors are placed on your scalp to monitor your brainwaves (EEG). You’ll play a simple game that responds to your brain’s activity. When your brain moves toward a more regulated state, the game progresses, training your brain to work toward that regulated state.

  3. Self-Regulation: Your brain is a “pattern-seeking” organ. It enjoys the positive feedback and gradually learns how to maintain those calm, focused states on its own. It’s like exercise for your brain—strengthening the neural pathways that lead to better mood, sleep, and focus.

  4. Long-Lasting Change: Because neurofeedback is a learning process, the benefits are often enduring. Once your brain learns a more efficient way to operate, it tends to keep those skills, much like learning to ride a bike.

But You Might Still Be Unsure…

Is it safe? Does it hurt?

Neurofeedback is completely non-invasive and painless. The sensors on your scalp only read the electrical activity your brain is already producing; they do not put any electricity into your brain. Many people prefer this as a safe alternative to a supplement or medication.

How many sessions will I need?

Because neurofeedback is a form of training, it requires repetition to “stick.” Most clients begin to notice subtle shifts within the first 10 to 20 sessions, such as better sleep or feeling slightly less reactive. For deep-seated issues like developmental trauma or chronic attention challenges, more sessions may be needed to consolidate the learning. We will work with you to track your progress and adjust the plan as we go.

I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t work. Why is this different?

Traditional talk therapy works from the “top-down” (using your logic and thoughts to change your feelings). Neurofeedback works from the “bottom-up” (calming the nervous system so your brain is actually capable of processing thoughts and emotions). For many, calming the “physiologic noise” makes traditional therapy much more effective.
